Official: German FA postpones Regensburg-Werder
Germany's FA officially cancelled the upcoming quarterfinal DFB-Pokal tie between SV Werder Bremen and SSV Jahn Regensburg on Monday evening.
The Deutscher Fußball Bund released a terse statement late Monday confirming earlier reports that Tuesday's cup-quarterfinal match in Regensburg would not take place. The country's association only said that all parties involved were "committed to rescheduling as soon as possible."
Current health protocols in Regensburg's region of Bavaria require that the entire team and its staff enter quarantine following the multiple positive corona tests stemming from the weekend.
No final decision has been reached yet on the side's upcoming 2. Bundesliga games against SpVgg Greuther Fürth (Sunday) and VfL Osnabrück (March 13th). It is unlikely that the fixtures will proceed as scheduled.
When Regensburg do eventually take the field against Werder, it will serve as the first time ever that the club has played in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals.
