With Jürgen Klopp and Hansi Flick out of the running to succeed Joachim Löw as Germany coach, Stefan Kuntz and Marcus Sorg have emerged as front-runners for the job, according to Bild.

Kuntz, who has served as Germany U21 coach since 2016, is flattered to be touted as a possible replacement for Löw, who will step back after this summer's European Championship.

"The fact that I'm being considered for one of the most important coaching positions in Germany makes me proud, of course. I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about any of this," Kuntz told Bild.

Sorg is currently working as an assistant under Löw, who himself was assistant coach to Jürgen Klinsmann before taking the reins as head coach in 2006.

Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff is understood to be backing the 55-year-old, who filled in as Germany coach for two Euro qualifiers in 2019 while Löw was suffering from after-effects of a sporting injury.
