Fantasy Bundesliga: Matchday 27 Review

With the conclusion of Matchday 27, we will be taking a closer look at selected performances and trends in detail as well as what to look out for before the next matchday in this recap.
Life without Lewy

Due to Lewandowski being out for the next few weeks at least, there was finally more variation in fantasy teams and options to pick for the forward position. Amongst the strikers, Marcus Thuram, (15.5M, 23) scored the highest after scoring a brace and could be a differential pick for upcoming games. From the more popular picks, Wout Weghorst, (20.7M, 16) had a good game while Andre Silva, (20.6M, 12) also scored and played well against Dortmund. However, with Wolfsburg facing Frankfurt (A) this weekend, it is a tough shout on which of these two strikers to have in the team.

Despite having an assist, Thomas Muller, (22.8M, 8) only scored 8, but seems like a good direct replacement for Lewandowski if he manages to get more involved in the upcoming games where Bayern might have more possession and attacking chances.

Leverkusen vs Hoffenheim - one to invest in or avoid?

Perhaps in one of the greater upsets of the week, Leverkusen not only failed to keep a clean sheet against Schalke, but played a rather even game that saw none of the Leverkusen players score more than 10 points. Similarly, a toothless Hoffenheim side, which lost 2-1 to Augsburg, seemed to be unable to create clear cut chances, with the highest scoring player only scoring 7 points. With these two teams scheduled to go against each other in the last fixture of Matchday 28, investing in either side could be risky with limited payout.

Kerem Demirbay, MID (13.3M, 9) did get an assist and would probably start the next game as well, but any forward pick from Leverkusen seems vulnerable to rotation at the moment, with the new coach still deciding his best lineup.

Dortmund faces uphill task for Champions League football

In a closely fought matchup, Dortmund lost to Frankfurt at home which saw Filip Kostic, MID (19.8M, 15) creating havoc down the left again and creating chances again and again for Frankfurt and Andre Silva. An interesting area to note is that Raphael Guerreiro, DEF (17.1M, 14) was playing more as an attacking midfielder, who took many of the set pieces, and could be an important player to have. Erling Haaland, FOR (21M, 8) blanked again, but surely can’t be stopped for long.

Shocks of the matchday:

Borna Sosa, DEF (7.9M, 24) is undoubtedly a must have, getting 12 points just from his key passes to shots.

Ruben Vargas, MID (9.4M, 18) scored and had a good game and could be a sneaky pick with Augsburg facing Schalke next.
