Fantasy Bundesliga: Matchday 31 Review

With the conclusion of Matchday 31, we will be taking a closer look at selected performances and trends in detail as well as what to look out for before the next matchday in this recap.
Dortmund beat Wolfsburg to maintain chase for Champion League
Borussia Dortmund won 2-0 against Wolfsburg, with star striker Erling Haaland, (22.3M, 20) bagging a brace. Haaland had been having a somewhat shaky form in recent matchdays, but showed that he can always be the difference maker even against tough sides like Wolfsburg. From Wolfsburg, Paulo Otavio, DEF (9.3M, 12) had 10 points just from won duels, showing that he can be a solid defensive option for upcoming games.

Köln and Mainz battling to stay up
Following an impressive 2-1 victory over Leipzig in midweek, Köln won 3-2 away at Augsburg with Ondrej Duda, MID (9.8M, 24) being the hero with a brace, while Marius Wolf, MID (4.8M, 17) had good returns with just an assist. Köln faces Freiburg at home next matchday, and Freiburg is one of the teams in the league which concedes the most shots on goal. Augsburg players also had decent scoring, with Robert Gummy, DEF (3.8M, 13) scoring, and midfielders Ruben Vargas, (9.7M, 12) and Daniel Caliguri, (12.5M, 11) scoring above 10 points. Augsburg face a struggling Stuttgart side in their next game and have potential for a good performance as well.

Gladbach to face Bayern
Gladbach looked to gain some confidence against Arminia Bielefeld and came off winners in a 5-0 drubbing even without key players like Lars Stindl and Jonas Hofmann being involved. Breel Embolo, FOR (12.7M, 24) scored 2 goals and will be pushing for a start against Bayern, while fullbacks Stefan Lainer, DEF (11.1M, 16) and Ramy Bensebaini, DEF (12.9M, 13) also performed well. Meanwhile Bayern had a surprising defeat to Mainz where they didn't have many chances to score apart from a goal gifted to Robert Lewandowski, FOR (25.8M, 7). Lewandowski will be gunning for Gerd Muller’s 40 goal record in which he has to score 4 more goals in the remaining 4 games, and will certainly be going all out to score.

Shocks of the matchday:
Joel Pohjanpalo, FOR (3M, 25) was the highest scoring player of the matchday, scoring a hat-trick against Werder Bremen, who seem extremely shaky at the back.

Amadou Haidara, MID (10M, 22) was the most dangerous player for Leipzig and looked to have the ball all the time, creating many good opportunities despite playing slightly in a deeper role.
