Report:
Dani Olmo's exit clause a whopping €75 million

A report appearing on UK-based sporting magazine the Athletic's website confirms that, if the Spanish super clubs wish to move Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo back to his homeland this summer, they will have to move a sizable mountain.

To be precise, a €75 million sized mountain. That is evidently the price of the 23-year-old's exit clause.

Versatile attacker Dani Olmo has freely admitted that he would like to move back to his home country at some future point in his career. The Terrassa native has actually never played for a Spanish league club. Dinamo Zagreb snatched him from the FC Barcelona youth academy at the age of 16 and he was developed in Croatia.

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig brought him one step closer to the Iberian peninsula in January of 2020. His performances this season--five goals and ten assists in 32 appearances for Julian Nagelsmann's side--would appear to suggest that he can head further westward if he wishes. Olmo turned in impressive fixtures from many different positions in the Leipzig trainer's avant gardé tactical set ups.

A place in La Liga will likely have to wait another season. Olmo remains contractually bound to the German Red Bulls through 2024 and the Athletic reports that the Spaniard's current exit clause is a whopping €75 million. Only an absolute command performance for Luis Enrique's national team in this summer's Euros could persuade Real Madrid or FC Barcelona to pursue him this year.

While such an occurrence should be considered highly unlikely, it is not totally impossible. La Roja find themselves in dire need of a talismanic ten to guide their attack, particularly in light of the COVID diagnosis on central anchor Sergio Busquets.

Spain, with Olmo as a projected starter, begin their Euro 2020 against Sweden on Monday.
