VfL Wolfsburg sporting managing director Jörg Schmadtke has criticized Germany coach Hansi Flick's decision to send Ridle Baku home early during the international break.

Baku was in the squad for Germany's clashes with Liechtenstein and Armenia, but didn't travel to Iceland for the third and last game of the international break, with Flick stating that he had opted for other players.

Speaking to Sport1 on Saturday, Schmadtke questioned the decision, saying he would have liked to be contacted on the matter.

"It wasn't without problems. Quite specifically, I would have liked if they had called me to weigh up whether it would be a good move," said Schmadtke.

"I don't have the impression that it created a rift with Ridle. But something like that can cause disruption," Schmadtke added.
