FSV Mainz 05 has officially confirmed this evening that Danny Da Costa has extended his contract until the summer of 2027.

With the club securing their Bundesliga status after an away win over FC St. Pauli, Da Costa's contract thus was automatically extended.

The 32-year-old defender, now a regular since the 2022/23 season, crucially can cover places in a back three and on the right wing.

Da Costa also underlined his importance this campaign, playing in 44 of a possible 47 competitive appearances for Mainz.

The German first joined Mainz on loan in 2021 before making a permanent transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt just a year later.

“Danny is reliability personified," explained a rather joyous Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert after the deal was agreed.

"To deliver consistently throughout an entire season and to be on the pitch in almost every game is a remarkable achievement.

“We are happy that we can continue to rely on Danny's calmness, stability and experience at Mainz 05,” he added.
