Fantasy Bundesliga tips: 10 players to consider for Matchday 3

In this Fantasy Bundesliga article, we’ll highlight 10 players to consider adding to your team ahead of Matchday 3.

As a rule of thumb, we'll try to steer clear of the most obvious picks, instead focusing mainly on players who could offer great value as differentials.

Josip Juranovic, Union Berlin (Defender, 6.43M, 2%)

Having moved ahead of Christopher Trimmel in the pecking order under new Union Berlin coach Mauri Lustrinelli, Juranovic looks like an intriguing option at a reasonable price. After providing two assists and scoring 202 points on the opening matchday, he managed just 13 points in last week’s 4-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. However, that was a difficult fixture for the entire Union side. This week’s home clash with Schalke 04 should see Union enjoy far more possession, and Juranovic's set-piece responsibilities only add to his appeal.

Matthias Ginter, Freiburg (Defender, 11.12M, 11%)

Freiburg have made an excellent start to the season, winning both of their opening games while conceding just once. Ginter has been the standout performer in their defence, averaging a solid 160 points per game. With Freiburg now preparing to host a struggling Borussia Mönchengladbach side, the experienced centre-back looks well placed to deliver another strong Fantasy return.

Waldemar Anton, Dortmund (Defender, 16.83M, 7%)

Rather surprisingly, Anton has picked up the second-most points of any Borussia Dortmund player so far, having scored 204 in the opener and 248 in the 3-2 win over Hoffenheim, in which he also provided an assist. Dortmund should have a good chance of keeping a clean sheet at home against a Paderborn team that failed to score in their two opening games. This could benefit Anton, who is also capable of picking up decent points from duels and passes, while being a threat from set pieces.

David Raum, RB Leipzig (Defender, 18.19M, 9%)

Arguably one of the most attack-minded defenders in the game, RB Leipzig's captain and set-piece taker is among the defenders with the highest potential this weekend, as Die Roten Bullen welcome an out-of-form Hamburger SV to the Red Bull Arena.

Yuito Suzuki, Freiburg (Midfielder, 9.09M, 26%)

After his impressive hat-trick on Matchday 1, Suzuki was only able to deliver a rather disappointing 98 points against Paderborn. This shouldn't put you off too much, though, with the Japanese international still a very attractive option for Freiburg's favourable home game against Gladbach.

Said El Mala, 1. FC Köln (Midfielder, 12.08M, 13%)

Having missed Köln's 4-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart last week, El Mala is expected to return to the starting lineup and give the Billy Goats a boost for their home game against Werder Bremen. Costing 12.08M, the winger has shown many times that he's capable of producing special moments, and he could be kept until the international break, with Köln facing HSV next.

Brajan Gruda, RB Leipzig (Midfielder, 12.69M, 4%)

RB Leipzig missed Gruda's creativity last week as they slipped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Werder Bremen. The good news for Die Roten Bullen is that the midfielder is back in the squad for Thursday's game against Como. If he looks set to start against HSV on Sunday, Gruda is certainly an intriguing differential with plenty of upside.

Marin Ljubicic, Union Berlin (Striker, 2.78M, 1%)

If you're looking for a budget forward, Ljubicic is an interesting option at just 2.78 million, with Union looking to secure their first Bundesliga win of the season against Schalke 04 on Friday. The forward hasn't been particularly productive in Union's first two games, but he did score twice and provide an assist in the capital club's 4-2 win over Eintracht Braunschweig in the DFB-Pokal. At his price, Ljubicic doesn't necessarily need to be a starter in your Fantasy team, but could instead provide useful bench depth while freeing up funds for premium options elsewhere.

Igor Matanovic, Freiburg (Striker 15.39M, 12%)

Matanovic has had at least one goal contribution in four of Freiburg’s five games across all competitions this season, with four goals and two assists to his name so far. Although he didn't find the net or provide an assist in Freiburg’s 1-0 win over Paderborn last time out, he still scored a respectable 249 points, demonstrating that there is more to his fantasy appeal than simply goals. With Freiburg now hosting a Gladbach side that conceded four to Elversberg last time out, Matanovic looks like one of the standout forward options this week.

Serhou Guirassy, Dortmund (Striker, 18.86M, 17%)

Guirassy has made an excellent start to the season, scoring four goals and providing an assist across his last three games and most recently bagging a brace against Villarreal in the Champions League. With Dortmund now hosting Paderborn, he looks like a logical inclusion, even if the newly-promoted side have made a solid start defensively, conceding just once in their opening two matches.
