After impressing for St. Pauli early in the Bundesliga season, Elias Saad suffered an ankle ligament injury in a 3-0 loss to Mainz earlier this month.

It's now been confirmed that the winger will be sidelined for an extended period of time after undergoing surgery in Munich on Monday.

St. Pauli announced the news on Tuesday, stating that the operation was necessary because the healing process had not gone as hoped.

When exactly Saad will be able to return to action is unclear, but it won't be anytime soon.

The 24-year-old has scored two goals and provided two assists in seven games for St. Pauli this season.
