Reus hopeful of playing in MLS Cup Final: "Didn't come here to let my career fade."

Just a few short months after moving to the LA Galaxy of America's MLS, German footballing legend Marco Reus has a chance to win the third major trophy of his career today. Unfortunately for the 35-year-old whose career has often been defined by ill-timed injuries, adductor problems may sideline him for today's MLS Cup Final against the New York Red Bulls. 

Reus famously had to withdraw from Germany's 2014 World Cup winning squad just prior to the tournament. The former BVB captain also missed out on the 2022 World Cup and 2016 Euros. On the mend from multiple injuries sustained during the 2020/21 Bundesliga camapaign, Reus famously declined a call-up to participate in the 2021 Summer Euros.

The Dortmund native captured two German domestic cups with his hometown side, but never won a league title. In an interview with German public broadcaster RTL/n-tv, Reus expressed hope that he might yet get a chance with his current American team despite his current status. Reus' involvement will be decided shortly before kick-off. 

"It's a race against time, but I'm hopeful it will work out," Reus told the German public broadcaster, "One must remain positive and that's what I am. It's unquestionably the game of the year." 

"I didn't come here to let my career fade," Reus also noted, "It would be a wonderful feeling to declare myself a champion here after such a short time. Everyone's highly motivated."
