Reus speaks on MLS move: "I wanted something different for my family."

Shortly after his move to LA Galaxy was confirmed, German footballing legend Marco Reus conducted an interview with Sky about his decision to join America's MLS.

The Bundesliga veteran confessed that he wasn't entirely sure what to expect from his first move abroad, but was eager to learn more about American football.

German footballing legend Marco Reus' long-rumored move to America's MLS was finally confirmed on Thursday evening. In an interview with Sky Germany conducted shortly after the unveiling, the 35-year-old declared himself delighted to be following in the footsteps of former LA Galaxy stars David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Steven Gerrard. Reus also confirmed that he hadn't yet personally heard from fellow MLS player Lionel Messi.

“It makes me proud,” Reus said when asked about the Galaxy trio, ”The three of them have done an incredible job - in the past - and then they've really revived themselves  That's my goal too. I want to become champion with the club here.”

“He hasn't sent a message," Reus said with a laugh about Messi, "I also doubt that one will come. But it's nice to play against him again in the league.”

“It was clear to me that I definitely didn't want to stay in the Bundesliga," Reus said of his decision to move across the pond, "And to be honest, Europe wasn't an option for me either, because I want to do something completely different at the end of my career. Something else linguistically, something else for my family."

"The contact with LA Galaxy came very early," Reus continued, "And I liked the idea straight away. The surroundings are interesting. It's not a bad idea to live here. In the Bundesliga you always had the feeling, even when you were playing away, that there were so many spectators supporting you. I don't know if it's the same here, but at least I'll get to figure out that and some more things about football in general."
