VfB Stuttgart could have cashed in on Jamie Leweling last winter, but chose to reject Bournemouth’s €40 million bid for the German winger.

In a recent interview with Sport Bild, Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth reflected on the decision.

“First and foremost, this shows that over the past three and a half years, we have become more financially independent and are able to turn down such offers, should they arise,” Wohlgemuth said.

“Moreover, Jamie himself immediately positioned himself, defining VfB Stuttgart as the best sporting destination for him at the moment. This also marks a huge difference compared to the club’s status just two years ago.”

The 25-year-old Leweling extended his contract with Stuttgart in December 2024, committing to a long-term deal until 2029.
