Tah to Leverkusen fans: "You have my word that I will give everything."
The 28-year-old has promised to go into further details about his transfer aspirations "at the appropriate time."
Responding to comments surfacing from his agent yesterday, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and German national team defender Jonathan has now addressed Leverkusen fans directly on his instagram feed. The 28-year-old would have been compelled to make a statement in any case, given that club supporters would question his loyalty after Pini Zahavi's insistence that he wished to leave.
The statement reads:
Dear Bayer 04 Fans.
"There's recently been some speculation over me and my future. Much of the details have not been represented accurately. I will make such details clearer at the appropriate time."
"It's true that I weighed some transfer options, but it is now confirmed that I'll play my 10th season at Leverkusen. You may rest assured that I am looking forward to facing this season's challenges with our team, our coaching staff, and you fans this year."
"I remain firmly convinced that we have a strong squad and can make our mark in all three competitions this season."
"I would like to thank everyone who has been involved with me on my professional path thus far. For that, I am grateful."
"Now it's time to end all speculation and focus on the 2024/25 campaign."
"You have my word that I will give everything to ensure that we are successful this season, just as I have for the past nine years."
"See you at the BayArena. I'm really looking forward to it!"
