Eintracht Frankfurt beat Hafnarfjarðar 1-0 in the first leg of the second qualifying UEFA Women's Europa Cup playoff with Rebecka Blomqvist's penalty-kick in the hour-mark. Last season’s semi-finalists will host the side from Iceland in next week's return leg.
Niko Arnautis had seen several key players leave the club in the summer, but they have now won four games in the row after narrowly missing out on qualification to the league phase of the Champions League.
The captain Laura Freigang was among the very few stars who stayed at the club, and she won the penalty after a difficult game for Frankfurt to find a breakthrough. Blomqvist, who also scored the winner against Mainz in the weekend, calmly scored from the spot for the game's only goal.
Before the return leg, Frankfurt will face Regionalliga side Karlsruhe in the opening round of the DFB-Pokal Frauen.
