VfL Wolfsburg picked up their second win of the 2026/27 2. Bundesliga season, defeating SV Darmstadt 98 by a 5-1 result at Volkswagen Arena on Friday evening.
The result is the first victory for Wolfsburg at home since 14. January 2026 (2-1 v. FC St. Pauli), and the first time that they scored five or more goals in a single German league match since 14. January 2025 (5-1 v. Borussia Mönchengladbach).
Here are reactions from some of the players following the full-time whistle.
MUHAMMED DAMAR
Regarding how the club rebounded from last Saturday: “After the defeat against St. Pauli, we felt such a slap in the face, but we got back up and we wanted to turn things back around today; going into the international break with a victory is the best thing that can happen.”
Regarding the supporters and their wait for a home win: "I think they waited a very long time, nine months. We are simply happy for our supporters; I hope they had fun, many goals were scored today and we are looking forward to more.
ROBERT GLATZEL
Regarding the feeling at the final whistle: “Awesome home win, awesome feeling on the pitch after the final whistle; I think the joy was very noticeable to everyone. It was a very, very nice evening for all of us.”
Regarding his own performance in the match: “Every goal feels great as a striker; I also think Fabian Reese and Alexander Bernhardsson were very well presented. I do not think that it is too difficult when you are so supported by both of them, and yes, I can definitely thank them both.”
Regarding the team's dominant second half: “We sensed that we could add more, that even more could be scored today - and I think that made us even more aware of the chances that came our way. We were pushing forward and ultimately rewarded ourselves for continuously doing so.”
Regarding the home support and what it means to the fans: “The fans have been waiting a long time for this, and that is why today's home win is all the more wonderful, I believe. As I said, the moments after the final whistle were very beautiful; I think you could definitely see how happy the supporters were.”
ALEXANDER BERNHARDSSON
Overall feeling about the result: “I am very happy that we gave the supporters a win, that we as a team got a win, and that we get to celebrate before the international break.”
Regarding his two-goal performance: “I am happy to help the team to create chances, to win matches. On days like today, you feel good that you got some chances, and that you got a lot of help from your team; incredible teammates, and that made it so much easier for me.”
Regarding the supporters: “I heard that the last time was in January; we want to give them a win every week, and today, we said to ourselves that we were going to give them something before the break so that they can celebrate. They deserve it, they are there every match no matter where we are, so I am happy that we gave them this - and I am happy that we could finish like this before the international break. Everyone can be happy, so it is nice.”
