Borussia Dortmund secured three crucial points in the title race with a hard-fought 3-2 win over 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday evening.

With the Black and Yellows now just six points behind Bayern Munich at the top of the table, Nico Schlotterbeck sees his side as genuine title contenders.

“You have to have the ambition as BVB to tell the fans, ‘We want to become champions,’” he told DAZN.

“Now it’s six points three fewer than after the winter break. That’s why I can say and the guys feel the same we want to go on the attack now.”

Dortmund capitalised on Bayern’s surprising 2-2 draw with HSV on Saturday, though they themselves had to battle hard to see off Heidenheim.

“We won today with a bit of luck, but I don’t care at all,” said Schlotterbeck.

“That’s football. Now it’s six points. Maybe they (Bayern) are slowly starting to think things over.”

Dortmund and Bayern face each other on February 28.
