Who will be dropped from Germany's Euro squad? New top candidate emerges

Alexander Nübel suddenly appears to be the most likely candidate to be dropped from Germany's Euro 2024 squad.

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has a tough decision to make ahead of the European Championship.

After naming 27 players to his preliminary squad, he must reduce it by one by Friday at the latest.

There has been a lot of speculation as to who will be omitted, and Bild now reports that VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is suddenly the most likely to be left out.

The German tabloid reports that the German Football Association sent out the shirt numbers for Friday's friendly against Greece this morning. Only three goalkeepers were included: Manuel Neuer, Marc-André ter Stegen and Oliver Baumann.

After announcing his preliminary squad, Nagelsmann revealed his intention to take four goalkeepers to the tournament, but this could be an indication that he has changed his mind.

If he does decide to stick with Nübel, either Robin Koch, Maximilian Beier or Chris Führich will be left out of the final squad, according to Bild.

On the possibility of being dropped from the squad, Nübel told T-Online on Thursday:

“It could still happen. To be honest, I don't know. It's clear that there will be more changes in the outfield positions than in goal during the tournament. Maybe Julian will decide now, just before the start, that three goalkeepers are enough for him because he wants more flexibility on the pitch. I will give everything until the last second, that's all I can do.”
