Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade has suffered a setback ahead of Germany’s World Cup qualifiers this month.

The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed that the 23-year-old striker will not join the squad at their training base in Herzogenaurach on Monday due to a flu-like infection.

For now, however, Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has decided not to call up a replacement, with Woltemade expected to join the squad in the coming days.

Woltemade scored his third Premier League goal for Newcastle in their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

He has made four appearances for Germany’s senior national team so far.

Germany face Luxembourg on Friday and Northern Ireland on Monday.
