Edin Džeko is on the verge of extending his Schalke stay after reaching a full agreement with the Bundesliga club, according to multiple reports. The Bosnian striker is expected to undergo his medical before signing a contract that will keep him in Gelsenkirchen until 2027.
Džeko was seen back in Germany after his time away with the Bosnian national team at the World Cup.
The 40-year-old became a fan favorite after arriving midway through last season, playing a key role in Schalke's promotion back to the Bundesliga. His performances convinced the club to push for a new deal, with head coach Miron Muslić reportedly among the driving forces behind the negotiations.
Džeko turned down several other offers before opting to remain at Schalke. The report adds that the former Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma, Inter, and Fenerbahçe striker was convinced by the club's project and the opportunity to continue competing in the Bundesliga.
Barring any unexpected issues during his medical, Džeko is expected to rejoin Schalke's squad immediately and could be available for the club's upcoming pre-season fixtures as preparations for the new Bundesliga campaign continue.
