After Florian Wirtz turned down Bayern Munich in favor of a move to Liverpool, the Bavarians have been linked with several other attacking players.

One of them is Cody Gakpo, and according to Kicker, Bayern remain interested in the Dutch international.

The report claims that Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, is “in contact” with the attacker’s representatives.

However, a deal could prove financially challenging. Gakpo is expected to cost around €70 million - a fee Bayern would only be willing and able to pay if they first generate funds through player sales.

According to Kicker, such sales are considered “essential” for the transfer to go through.

Ironically, Bayern missing out on Wirtz could indirectly boost their chances of signing Gakpo.

In order to finance Wirtz’s €150 million move from Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool may need to sell players, with Gakpo reportedly among the names under consideration.

Meanwhile, reports from England suggest that Gakpo hopes talks with Bayern might help him secure a better contract at Liverpool. However, if that doesn’t happen, he would be open to a move to Munich.

The 26-year-old remains under contract at Liverpool until 2028.
