After seven years at Werder Bremen, Leonardo Bittencourt will leave the club when his contract expires this summer – and it now appears he has found his next destination.

According to Bild, Bittencourt is set to join newly-promoted 2. Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus, with his medical expected to follow shortly.

The move would mark an emotional return to the club where Bittencourt took his first steps in professional football.

The German tabloid reports that Bittencourt is prepared to take a significant pay cut to complete the move and is expected to take on a management role at the club once he hangs up his boots.

Bittencourt has made 304 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 32 goals and providing 36 assists.
