It is rumoured that the former Germany international and Bayern star could return to the club to earn his stripes as a gaffer.

Jérôme Boateng officially retired from professional football at the age of 37 last week with Austrian club LASK Linz.

However, the 2014 World Cup winner with Germany could make a swift return to the sidelines in a return to Bayern Munich.

He previously mentioned Vincent Kompany as “a great example of how a former player became a great coach,” in an interview.

In response, Kompany stated: “Yes, of course, he can come to us for a few weeks and contribute his experience as a top defender.”

Whether Boateng will actually complete an internship at the highest level at FC Bayern soon hasn't been decided yet.

However, the invitation means it would be a route to transition from player to coach, and at the very place where he achieved his greatest successes.

With his 20 titles won at Bayern, Boateng has long since secured his place in the club's history and Säbener Straße could herald the next chapter.
