Bochum officially take Medic on loan

VfL Bochum officially unveiled former FC St. Puli center back Jakov Medic as a new signing Tuesday afternoon.

VfL Bochum's rumored deal to bring in an additional defensive reinforcement is officially through. The 25-year-old moves back to German football from his Dutch side AFC Ajax on loan with a reported €2-3 million purchase option. Holland's "De Telegraaf" continues to report that, as part of the deal, the top flight German side will take on Medic's full €1.5 million annual salary.

Medic may be in line for a cold start as Bochum (as of this writing) retain the dubious honor of being the lone Bundesliga side to have been eliminated in the opening round of the DFB-Pokal this weekend. Peter Ziegler's new-look Revierklub will be hoping to turn things around in their opening league fixture against a very attack-minded Leipzig side on Saturday.

“Jakov is a dynamic and vertical player who is also highly resistant to pressing,” Bochum sporting director Marc Lettau remarked in a club statement accompanying the signing, “He is an excellent contester both on the ground and in the air, plays clean, precise passes, and maxes out his pace.”

“The Bundesliga is one of the top leagues in Europe and has been my goal since I first ventured to Germany," the player himself added, "VfL is a down-to-earth club where hard work on the pitch is celebrated by the fans. That's why I think I'll fit in well here.”
