Sky Report: Bochum secure loan deal for ex-St. Pauli defender

Sky Germany's Dennis Bayer reports that VfL Bochum have finalized the deal to bring in Croatian central defender Jakov Medic on loan from Ajax.

Reports that VfL Bochum were interested in acquiring former FC St. Pauli defender Jakov Medic have, according to one source, resulted in the finalization of a loan deal. Sky Germany's Dennis Bayer claims that the Revierklub will take the 25-year-old on loan with a €3 million purchase option. Holland's Telegraaf newspaper further notes that Bochum will, as part of the deal, take on Medic's €1.5 million salary.

The 2023/24 relegation playoff winners have thus far only signed players on frees and loans this summer. New additions such as Ibrahima Sissoko and Dani de Wit were considered coups as both players maintain estimated market values at €5 million and above. Loan deals for striker Myron Boadu and Aliou Baldé also added presumed quality to the roster.

The 2024/25 cycle nevertheless got off to a disastrous start for the 1848ers on Sunday as they became the first top flight German side to be eliminated in the opening round of the DFB-Pokal. Bochum haven't done much to shore up their defensive ranks during the offseason beyond signing Ivan Ordets to a permanent deal and bringing in Niklas Jahn from 1. FC Nürnberg II.
