Bayern Munich announced on Wednesday that Alphonso Davies will be out for months after suffering a torn ACL in Canada's 2-1 win over the United States.

Davies' agent, Nick Huoseh, subsequently criticized the Canadian team, saying his client came into the game with a knock and shouldn't have played.

The Canadian Football Association responded with a statement defending itself.

“Canada Soccer's coaches and experienced medical staff are true professionals and have always prioritized player safety and wellbeing. Anything suggesting otherwise is untrue," the statement read, according to The Athletic.

In addition, The Athletic has published an article quoting several sources with insight into the events that Davies himself wanted to play.

Prior to the game, Canada coach Jesse Marsch informed the team that Davies wouldn't play due to the knock he sustained against Mexico. However, Davies then informed Marsch that he felt fit enough to play, and the decision was made for the Bayern star to start, according to the report.
