Eberl confirms Stanisic will "play an important role" for Bayern

Max Eberl is looking forward to Josip Stanisic returning from his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen, saying the defender "will play an important role" for Bayern.

In a very special season for Josip Stanisic, the Croatia international helped Bayer Leverkusen end his parent club Bayern Munich's 11-year Bundesliga title run while on loan.

Stanisic was given plenty of playing time at the BayArena, and there has been speculation that he could move to Leverkusen on a permanent basis this summer.

However, speaking to Kicker, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has indicated that he wants the 24-year-old to come back and play for the Bavarians.

"He will play an important role for us," Eberl stressed.

Stanisic, 24, who scored four goals and provided six assists in 38 games for Leverkusen in the 2023/24 season, will now represent Croatia at Euro 2024.

He made 41 appearances for Bayern with a goal and an assist to his name before he headed out on loan.

The Croatian defender's contract with Bayern runs until the summer of 2026.
