Edin Džeko is still away from Schalke’s pre-season preparations as the player and club are yet to reach full agreement on a contract extension. The Bosnian played a key part in Schalke’s promotion to Bundesliga after joining them on a six-month deal.
Miron Muslić responded positively when asked about any updates regarding the ongoing talks, but “kicker” report the two parties are still far away from agreeing a deal despite a shared intention to continue cooperation for the upcoming season.
According to previous reports, Schalke were ready to meet the demand of the 40-year-old for the deal to happen. Meanwhile, the newly-promoted side continued their preparation for the upcoming season with a 3-1 win over Japanese top-flight side Fagiano Okayama.
Hasan Kuruçay, captain Kenan Karaman and new signing Junior Adamu scored the goals for Schalke after they went behind inside the first 15 minutes. The game was played in Stubaital (Austria) after the Royal Blues spent the week training at the site.
New signing Robin Gosens, a former teammate of Džeko, featured for the first time after joining the club on a loan deal from Fiorentina. Schalke will be in action next week against Regionalliga side KSV Hessen Kassel.
