Hamburger SV have announced the signing of 24-year-old right-back Zakaria El Ouahdi from KRC Genk.

The Morocco international has joined the North German side on a permanent deal.

“Zaka has had an impressive career path," said HSV board member for sport Kathleen Krüger.

"He worked his way up from Belgian amateur football to the professional game and the Moroccan national team, and he was one of Genk’s key players in recent years. He has earned this progress through his own efforts, which is an impressive reflection of his ambition and potential for development.

“He is now taking the step into the Bundesliga and wants to continue his development at HSV. We’re looking forward to continuing this journey together and warmly welcome Zaka."

El Ouahdi made 116 competitive appearances for Genk across three years, racking up 20 goals and 13 assists.

“I’m very happy to have joined HSV. It’s a big club in Germany with a great history,” he said after signing his contract with HSV.

“I can’t wait to play at Volkspark. From what I’ve heard, the stadium is always full. I want to excite the fans with my style of play and can promise that I’ll always give my best for the club.”
