Thomas Kessler is doing a fantastic job for 1. FC Köln, as reported by Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.

Talks over another contract extension beyond 2027 are progressing positively but discussions are still in the early stages.

Sky sources suggest that Kessler could be in line for a promotion at Effzeh from sporting director to managing director.

The 39-year-old oversaw around 26 transfer dealings last summer, most of which have settled well and performed admirably.

Köln currently sit in eighth position in the Bundesliga on 11 points - seven clear of the play-off and relegation zone.

They take on a difficult DfB Pokal second round tie against FC Bayern Munich tomorrow - catch our preview for the game here
