Kompany explains decision to bench Kane and Olise against Schalke

FC Bayern dropped points on matchday 2 as they were held to a goalless draw by newly-promoted Schalke 04. Harry Kane and Michael Olise only featured in the second-half for the visitors.
"That was simply a rational decision. They came back very, very late from vacation,” Kompany explained his decision after the game. Both players were in action at the World Cup until the final days as England and France reached the semi-finals.
“The game against Osnabrück cost them a lot of energy. The priority was to have them available for that because it was a Pokal game. I had to make a decision for today. They're still not in the right condition to be under a full workload.” added the 40-year-old coach as both attackers started the first three competitive games of the season.
