New Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac has put his faith in Karim Adeyemi after the striker came under fire from Mike Tullberg following last week's 2-1 win over Heidenheim.

Tullberg, who was working as BVB's caretaker coach, subbed Adeyemi on and off and told reporters after the game that he wasn't happy with the 23-year-old's performance.

"These are moments that no footballer likes. But as a player you have to deal with them," said Kovac, who revealed he has spoken to Adeyemi about the incident.

“This is a new beginning for all of us,” stressed the Dortmund coach.

"I can feel that he is motivated. I have confidence in him.

"Football is not just about attacking, it's also about defending. He is part of that too.

"When he uses his speed, he's a weapon for us. I hope he uses the skills he has. Then he's hard to stop," Kovac said.
