Augsburg vs. Hertha BSC preview: Can Hertha claim their first victory of the season?

Hertha BSC will look to clinch their first win of the season when they face an Augsburg side who have lost their last two maches.

Augsburg

After losing three of their opening four league games, Augsburg will be looking to claim their second win of the Bundesliga season on Sunday.

Augsburg began the league campaign with a demoralising 4-0 defeat to Freiburg, but they bounced back on matchday two, beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 to claim their first win of the season.

However, Enrico Maaßen's side have been unable to build upon that result, losing their last two matches. A 2-1 defeat to Mainz was followed by a 1-0 loss to Hoffenheim last weekend.

Having collected three points from a possible 12, Augsburg head into Sunday's contest in 14th place, but they will be hoping to claim their first home victory of the season to move up the table. Although, they face a challenge to record a positive result after losing seven of their previous 10 Bundesliga matches.

Augsburg can at least draw confidence that after losing their opening two home league games last season, they managed to win their third home match of the 2021-22 campaign.
Team News

Mergim Berisha could make his Augsburg debut after signing on a season-long loan deal from Fenerbahce. Meanwhile, ankle injuries will prevent Felix Uduokhai, Andre Hahn and
Niklas Dorsch from featuring, while Reece Oxford, Tobias Strobl, Noel Joel Sarenren-Bazee are also sidelined for the hosts.

Hertha BSC

Sandro Schwarz is still searching for his first victory as Hertha boss after beginning his reign with a five-game winless run in all competitions. Schwarz's tenure began with a penalty shootout defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig in the first round of the DFB-Pokal before they lost 3-1 to their local rivals Union Berlin in their opening Bundesliga game.

Hertha earned a point on matchday two courtesy of a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, but they have been unable to add to their points tally, losing their last two matches 1-0 to Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund.

Including last season, Hertha are winless in their last seven Bundesliga games, while they have won only one of their previous 14 away league matches. Although, they will take confidence from the fact they have lost one of their last 15 meetings with Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

The visitors are currently in the relegation zone, but a win on Sunday would see them move up to 14th position.

Dong-jun Lee and Kelian Nsona are both expected to miss out for Hertha due to knee injuries.
