Schalke 04 have announced that Naldo will leave the club to join AS Monaco with immediate effect. The 36-year-old has signed a contract until 2020 with the French Ligue 1 club.
"It wasn't easy for us to accept this transfer, because Naldo has meant a great deal to the Schalke 04's success, particularly in last season. Because of his merits, we've complied with his desire to make another change in his active career," Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel told s04.de.
Naldo, who has had to spend a lot of time on the bench this season, makes it clear that it wasn't an easy decision.
"The decision was very difficult for me, but I'm very ambitious, and I feel fit enough to take on another big challenge in a big league. I will always remember my two and a half years at Schalke, including many great moments. I will keep the club and the fans in my heart forever," he told S04.de.
Naldo, 36, has fallen down the pecking order at the Veltins-Arena in recent months and has been limited to just seven Bundesliga appearances this season.
The Brazilian veteran joined Schalke 04 from Wolfsburg in 2016 and made 80 appearances for the Gelsenkirchen side with nine goals and four assists to his name.
