De Ligt: "We gave the game away unnecessarily"

After Bayern's 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, Matthijs de Ligt said he believed his side "gave the game away unnecessarily".
Bayern Munich have a mountain to climb in next week's Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Manchester City after losing 3-0 in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

City drew first blood through Rodri's first-half screamer before Bernardo Silva added to the scoreline in the 70th minute following a mistake by Dayot Upamecano. Erling Haaland rounded off the scoring seven minutes later.

Speaking to Prime Video after the match, Bayern center back Matthijs de Ligt said he was frustrated with the way the game went.

"In the end it was too clear. I think we gave the game away unnecessarily," said de Ligt.

"City had a good chance at the start and Jamal [Musiala] also missed a good chance. It's a shame we gave the game away like that. City played much better today."
