Bayern München veteran Arjen Robben is considering joining Japanese side FC Tokyo when his contract expires this summer, The Sports Nippon understands, as reported by AFP.

The 35-year-old has announced that he will leave the Bavarians this summer, and the Japanese media outlet believes there is a 'rapidly emerging' chance that he'll play in Japan next season.

"Robben's family, who are believed to have a big say (in his decision), seem positive about coming to Japan," The Sports Nippon reports, as quoted by AFP.

"Several Japanese clubs are interested but FC Tokyo are close to clinching his signature," anonymous sources reportedly said.

AFP has contacted a spokesperson from the Japanese club who didn't want to comment on the report.

Robben, 35, has played 15 games for Bayern this season, scoring five goals and making two assists.

Update: Arjen Robben's agent and father has dismissed the rumor.
