Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has provided an injury update on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.

Schlotterbeck will miss Germany’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers as he recovers from a meniscus tear, but Nagelsmann revealed the 25-year-old is “making good progress.”

“We had a good talk, he’s making good progress, and he wants to get back in soon,” Nagelsmann said at a press conference on Wednesday after announcing his squad.

“He’s actually free of complaints. It was a serious, unfortunate injury, and we really missed him,” added the Germany coach, who sees Schlotterbeck as an important player for the national team.

“His profile, with good pace, solid build-up play, aggressiveness in defense, and pure will to win, makes him a player I’d like to see as a guaranteed starter. But for that, he needs to play and be healthy.”

A return to action in October appears to be a realistic target for Schlotterbeck.
