Things did not go according to plan for VfB Stuttgart in their Bundesliga opener, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin.

To make matters worse, both starting centre-backs, Jeff Chabot and Luca Jaquez, suffered injuries and will miss Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal game against Eintracht Braunschweig.

Jaquez sustained a broken nose, while Chabot is struggling with adductor problems, head coach Sebastian Hoeneß revealed on Monday.

“We’ve been faced with an issue after the weekend, and we’ll make the best of it. Ramon Hendriks and Finn Jeltsch will start, and Dan-Axel Zagadou will also be part of the squad,” Hoeneß said regarding how he plans to cope with the defensive absences.

Leonidas Stergiou, Silas Katompa Mvumpa, Ameen Al-Dakhil, and Justin Diehl are also sidelined.
