VfB Stuttgart travel to 2. Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig for midweek cup action. The first round of the DFB-Pokal tie needed a rearranged timeframe since Sebastian Hoeneß’s team was involved in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on the cup weekend.
The hosts lost their perfect league record over the weekend in Karlsruhe. Louis Breuing was sent off in Saturday’s fixture, but the suspension will only come into effect in the last game before the international break against Arminia Bielefeld.
As for the defending champions, Hoeneß fielded a side with four changes from the defeat to Union Berlin at the start of the Bundesliga season. Nick Woltemade starts on the bench, with Chris Führich starting on the wing. Lorenz Assignon gets his first start ahead of Joshua Vagnoman at right-back, while Tiago Tomás starts after capping his second Stuttgart debut with a goal. Ramon Hendriks for the injured Jeff Chabot is the other change.
