After a tough period at Borussia Dortmund with no first team action, Sebastian Rode is thriving on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 28-year-old played no part at Dortmund during the first half of the season, and he admits he felt he had something to prove when he faced his owner-club in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

"I was very happy to play against my old colleagues. I wanted to show that I'm a good footballer," Rode told DPA after Frankfurt's 1-1 draw with Dortmund.

According to Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre, the fact that Rode didn't play in the first half of the season wasn't just due to the strong competition in central midfield. Apparently, the 28-year-old spent a lot of time on the sidelines with injuries.

"Unfortunately, he was injured very, very often - almost every week. I've told him that the most important thing is that he's not injured anymore," Favre said.

Rode has been in the line-up for all Frankfurt's three games in 2019 so far.
