Gladbach vs. Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Can die Fohlen secure safety?

Gladbach are winless in four matches after following consecutive defeats with back-to-back draws against Union Berlin and Werder Bremen. They appeared to be heading towards a narrow loss in last Saturday’s clash at Weserstadion. However, Florian Neuhaus proved to be Gladbach’s hero, netting a stoppage-time penalty to ensure the contest finished as a 2-2 draw.
With two games left to play, die Fohlen are sitting in 13th place and four points clear of Mainz in the relegation playoff spot. Gladbach are set to face Stuttgart at the MHP Arena on the final day of the season, so they will be determined to secure safety before that tricky away fixture. Gerardo Seoane’s side will be mathematically safe if they claim all three points against Frankfurt.
Unfortunately for Gladbach, their hopes of claiming all three points will be tempered by the fact they have failed to win any of their previous five matches against Frankfurt. As a result, the hosts are looking to record their first head-to-head victory since cruising to a 4-0 win in April 2021.

Eintracht Frankfurt
Frankfurt are currently experiencing a poor run of form, having won just one of their last seven matches. Their only victory in that period took place in their home meeting with Augsburg earlier this month. Since beating the Fuggerstädter 3-1, Frankfurt have gone on to lose back-to-back games against the league’s top two sides. They fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich, before they were thumped 5-1 in last Sunday’s meeting with Bayer Leverkusen.
Despite experiencing a dip in form, Frankfurt are still on the verge of securing a top-six finish with four points separating them from Freiburg in seventh position. With RB Leipzig to come in a tough final game, Frankfurt will be determined to clinch sixth spot with a win in Saturday’s league contest.
Frankfurt have fared well in recent meetings with Gladbach, winning three of their last four competitive matches, including a 2-1 victory in December’s reverse fixture.
