Wolfsburg undone by Bayern's first-half blitz

After the disappointment of midweek, Bayern Munich welcomed VfL Wolfsburg to the Allianz Arena. First-half goals from Lovro Zvonarek and Leon Goretzka sealed a 2-0 win.

Despite the absence of Harry Kane through back problems, Bayern made the dream start inside 4 minutes as Lovro Zvonarek found the net on his debut. Alphonso Davies created the angle for the 19-year-old Croatian who fired home with some help from the post on its way. Leon Goretzka doubled the host's lead in the 13th minute as Thomas Müller broke the ball to his compatriot to score from 15 metres.

Bryan Zaragoza looked to have hit a third goal for Tomas Tuchel’s side but the offside flag put the shackle on the Spaniard's celebrations. A couple of tactical tweaks helped Ralph Hasenhüttl's men settle into the game after the half-hour mark. While the Bavarian giants continued to boss the play, chances became less frequent than before.

Kaminski and Zesiger replaced Wimmer and Jenz after the interval. But it was Bayern who resumed control of the contest, as Zaragoza threatened Casteels' goal again. Wolfsburg's attack remained remarkably toothless as things continued.

On the afternoon of his 500th Bundesliga appearance, Manuel Neuer made way for a standing ovation as Daniel Peretz made his Bayern debut. Die Wölfe introduced Tiago Tomas who looked to half the defecit instantly. The Portuguese forward dragged his effort wide with arguably their best opportunity of the match which fell their way in the 84th minute.
