Nagelsmann outlines Müller's role in Germany's Euros squad

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has explained the role he sees for Thomas Müller at this summer's European Championship.

At 34, Thomas Müller is one of the more experienced players in Julian Nagelsmann's 27-man preliminary squad for Euro 2024.

At the squad presentation, Julian Nagelsmann explained that although Müller isn't in the starting line-up, he has an important role to play - and not just from a footballing perspective.

“He gets on well with rappers and those who yodel. He has a good relationship with everybody. But I find it difficult to describe him as just a good-humored uncle, because of course he also has football qualities,” Nagelsmann explained.

"He's not someone who's going to play in games from the start. He will be someone who comes in, like he did recently at Bayern. There are players you can sub on well and others you can't. Thomas is someone who doesn't need much time to get going, he always has actions and special moments that opponents don't expect. The term "typical Müller goal" is no coincidence.

“Off the pitch, he's an extended arm of the coaching staff, he has an eye for the big picture and is a straight talker.”

Müller has featured 128 times for Germany, scoring 45 goals.
