Claudio Pizarro signs one-year extension with Werder at the age of 40

Werder Bremen veteran Claudio Pizarro has extended his contract by a year.
Claudio Pizarro has put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension with Werder Bremen, the club have announced.

The 40-year-old scored the winning goal in Werder's 2-1 win over RB Leipzig today and subsequently commented on his new deal.

"It was simply great to score a goal and to sign a contract extension. The fans have a special place in my heart and this gives me strength," he said, as quoted by the club.

Pizarro, who turns 41 in October, scored seven goals in 30 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign.
