Germany U21 will hope to qualify for the European Championship when they host Georgia on Tuesday in Bielefeld. Antonio Di Salvo’s side have won seven qualifying games in a row after their 3-2 defeat to Greece in Jena.
The three-time winners have only conceded two goals in the remaining eight matches, including Malta’s shocking lead on Wednesday in Ta’ Qali. However, Nicolo Tresoldi’s hat-trick helped Germany to a 4-1 victory.
With Greece also scoring four against Latvia, the race for an automatic qualification went into the final day. Germany will finish top if they finish on the same points because of their superior head-to-head record after their 2-0 win in Athens at the end of March.
The Club Brugge striker was also on target when they beat Georgia in Tbilisi in the last game of 2025 for both sides. Unless they lose out on automatic qualification, this will now be the final competitive fixture of the year.
Di Salvo started 19 players in the first two games of this international break, with only the front three of Dženan Pejčinović, Nicolo Tresoldi and Paris Brunner making both lineups. As such, it’ll be tricky to predict whether he’ll revert to the team that started the Latvia game or mix it up with both sides.
Noahkai Banks will be absent after suffering a serious injury on his debut in Malta. In addition to the US-German, Paris Brunner, Noah Darvich, Francis Onyeka, Max Weiß and Wael Mohya played for Germany U21 for the first time in this international break.
Meanwhile, Tresoldi, who is only five games shy of tying Fabian Ernst’s record of most caps at this level, will hope to add to his 10 goals in the qualifying campaign. With a three-goal lead over Norway and Ipswich Town forward Sindre Walle Egeli, the Italian-born star has a big chance to finish top scorer.
Georgia lost 3-0 to Greece in their last home game of the group before a 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland in Ballymena. Their only two wins of the qualifying campaign came at home and away against Malta, who still haven't picked up a point with only a trip to Latvia left in their calendar.
