Emre Can feels he has grown more comfortable with the centre-back position in recent years.

While Emre Can plays in central midfield for Borussia Dortmund, Germany coach Joachim Löw preferred to use him in central defence towards the end of 2019. And the 26-year-old has absolutely no problems with playing at the back.

"If you had asked me two years ago, I would have declined and said 'No thanks, I don't want to play that position. In the meantime, I've become extremely comfortable with it," Can said in an interview with Kicker and added:

"My youth coaches Mehmet Scholl and Stefan Beckenbauer as well as my agent Rezi Fazeli told me that I could have a big career in midfield, but a world-class career as a centre-back. I didn't realize that myself for years. I now believe that my strengths in defence really do come into their own. Of course, that doesn't mean that I can't or won't play in midfield."

Can has made 25 appearances for Germany, scoring once.
