In an interview with Sport Bild, the Gladbach midfielder opens up on how he reacted to his first international call-up.
"I didn't know his number before, but I knew from some of my teammates what the national team coach's area code is. When the phone rang, I anticipated that it would be him. But I was still a bit excited. It was a cool conversation, I was totally happy," Neuhaus said and added:
"I see the call-up as an approval of my performances in the past season. But I won't rest on my laurels now. I believe that we are on a very good path in Gladbach. And I want to do my part to ensure we pick up where we left off last season."
Asked about his goals for the new season, Neuhaus responded:
"I want to improve, so that I can help the team even more. For me personally, it's not scoring or making assists that count, but my influence on our game. I think that I can give the team a lot with my playing style. I want to show that I am important for the team."
The 23-year-old central midfielder made a total of 37 appearances last season, racking up four goals and two assists.
