Sven Ulreich has yet to decide whether he will retire from football or continue his career beyond this season.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer of 2026, and it's completely open if he will sign a new deal, join another club or hang up his gloves.

“No decision has been made yet about whether I will retire or not,” Ulreich told ran after Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Mainz on Sunday.

“It’s also possible that I continue playing. I haven’t really thought about it in concrete terms yet. We will decide together next year. For now, I’m taking it week by week.”

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl is taking a relaxed approach to planning next season’s goalkeeper lineup. For now, he is focusing on negotiations with key defender Dayot Upamecano over a new contract.

Like Ulreich, current No. 1 Manuel Neuer is also out of contract at the end of the season. At the same time, Bayern have two goalkeepers out on loan: Alexander Nübel at Stuttgart and Daniel Peretz at Hamburger SV.

“We are taking it very calmly. First, we make the big decisions, like with ‘Upa,’ and then the others. Spring is very possible, similar to with Manuel Neuer,” Eberl explained.

Jonas Urbig is currently Bayern’s No. 2, while Sven Ulreich is the third-choice option.
