Official: Frankfurt's Dominik Kohr joins Mainz on six-month loan
FSV Mainz 05 officially confirmed the arrival of central midfielder Dominik Kohr on Monday. The 26-year-old will play for the Rheinhessen through the end of the season.
Kohr's existing contract with die Adler stills runs through 2024. Since arriving in July 2019 at a transfer cost of €8.5 million, Kohr's market value has declined slightly to €6.8 million.
Trainer Adi Hütter still had his uses for Kohr during the first-half of this season. He started three fixtures and made four relief appearances; all of them coming when his coach clearly attempted to adopt a more defensive posture late in matches. Kohr's physicality rendered him an attractive prospect for any Bundesliga side looking for a strong tackler in defensive midfield.
Reports surfacing earlier in the day suggested that a deal would be quickly finalized as both parties considered it an advantageous transaction. Eintracht sporting CEO Fredi Bobic called the move "wise and mutually consistent". Kohr himself immediately agreed to the loan.
"I know precisely what they want from me and what role I shall play here," Kohr said in a statement, "I had great conversations with Bo Svennsson and [chairman] Christian Heidel. I divined a spark of passion immediately in the talks."
