Whether or not a potent Leipzig trio will be fit in time for the weekend showdown against Gladbach remains to be seen. Julian Nagelsmann nevertheless struck an optimistic tone as pertained to three of his crucial players, particularly de-facto striker Emil Forsberg.
Germany's rote Bullen have definitely felt the absence of midfielder Emil Forsberg these past few weeks. With no one truly stepping into the departed Timo Werner's boots, the Saxons have relied upon 15 separate goalscorers this year. Forsberg rose to serve as the team's de-facto lead striker shortly before the Christmas break.

Forsberg remains tied with Yussuf Poulsen and Christopher Nukunku for second-place on the squad's scoring list. All three players have four tallies this season. Marcel Sabitzer leads the team with five. The Swedish attacker has been sidelined with knee problems since round 18.

In his Thursday press conference, trainer Julian Nagelsmann expressed optimism that Forsberg would be fit in time to square off against the foals this weekend. The 29-year-old has reportedly been pain free throughout team training this week.

Defender Dayot Upamecano and holding midfield linchpin Kevin Kampl, both also struggling with injuries also returned to team training this week. Nagelsmann seemed to suggest that all three might start in his comments.

"These guys have performed at a certain level during my tenure at the club," Nagelsmann noted, "They've earned a certain standing. Basically, that always speaks in favor of bringing them in."
