Lothar Matthäus says he 'would consider' succeeding Joachim Löw as Germany coach after the Euros if he's asked to take the reins.
"It's up to the DFB to make a decision. If at some point this question comes to me from those responsible, then of course I would think about it," Germany's all-time record cap holder said during the podcast 'Bayern Insider'.
At the moment, Matthäus doesn't envision himself in the role as Germany coach, but he doesn't want to rule out anything.
"Back in 1984, Franz Beckenbauer didn't initially want to be the coach, but eventually took the reins, partly in response to a certain pressure. If I feel a similar pressure, and it's positive, I would consider it."
Beckenbauer ended up staying on as Germany coach until 1990, stepping down after guiding Germany to the World Cup title.
